Your hunny has finally popped the question, there were tears of joy, screams of delight and immeasurable amounts of hugs and kisses. Now the real fun begins….
You now have to get the venue, the caterer, the florist, the band, the little custom candies…. The list goes on and on. Since we are wedding photographers, we thought we would start with what we know best. So here are just three little hints that might help you while looking for your photographer.
Point A … pictures speak a thousand words.
Every couple has their own style, their own flair if you will, as does every photographer. When looking for someone to document the most important day of your life, you want to make sure that their style is conducive to your own. You may view galleries upon galleries of gorgeous pictures, but if they don’t match your style, they are not for you. So before booking appointments, make sure to thoroughly investigate the portfolio and make sure it fits you.
Point B is for Budget
Ah money, the one thing that we still don’t like to bring up in any company. This is actually the easiest part when it comes to the interaction between you and your photographer hopefuls. Every couple is different and has different spending priorities, to some it’s all about the food and the music, to others it’s all about the aesthetic and the photos. Each photography company has a base price and hopefully it fits into your budget. If it comes close and you might have room to adjust your budget but you’re not sure, trust your instincts. Other than your new hubby or wife, your photos are the only thing you will have when the wedding is over, so really investing in a good team for your wedding photos is a solid choice.
One Last Thing – Liking your Team
A wedding is a really big deal and can be an easily overwhelming and/or stressful event. You want to set yourself up for success on the actual day and it is not done by surrounding yourself with people you can barely tolerate on a good day. We recommend really examining the personalities of the people you are considering… Check out their websites, their blogs, but most of all MEET WITH THEM! We ALWAYS recommend a consultation with potential photographers. Get to know them, evaluate whether you are comfortable with them. If you are not comfortable with your photographer and do not have a sense of report and trust with them it will show in your pictures. We cannot stress this enough… your photographer will be guiding you around for large portions of your wedding day, you have to trust that they will make the right decisions for you and you have to enjoy having them around. Use your consultation to ask questions, and don’t be shy about it, you are investing in them and they should be open to answering questions about anything you need.
Like we said these are just a few helpful tips from us to you. Finding the right fit for your wedding photographer does take time and energy, but you can do it! You found your future spouse, you can certainly find your future photographer!
