Sivan & David’s Engagement Session {Chicago Engagement Photographer}

Thank you Chicago, for your gorgeous views and completely unpredictable weather, somehow you were totally on our side! The morning of Sivan and David’s engagement shoot, a gigantic storm rolled through Chicago that brought a monsoon of rain, huge hail and tornado warnings into Indiana! We crossed our fingers and hoped that the storm would pass as quickly as it moved in, which turned out to be a perfect gamble. Just as we pulled up, the clouds rolled away and a bright blue sky emerged

Sivan and David love to travel which made the beginning of our shoot all too appropriate since it felt like we were on top of the world. We started on the roof top deck of the gorgeous Gold Coast building that David’s family lives in worked our way through the super modern lobby, (which I of course loved with its white couches and mirrored accents) and finally ended our shoot at sunset around the Kinzie bridge area. We had so much fun and even did some pictures that will be incorporated into the wedding (can’t tell you how, don’t want to give away the surprise!) Can’t wait for the wedding this November!

Caroline & Andrew Engagement Session {Chicago Engagement Photographer}

Walls and walls of fun!  One of the first things we learned about Caroline and Andrew is how laid back they are, which definitely came in handy when our first engagement shoot location (a cafe in Bucktown) was unexpectedly packed with people just as we were supposed to start shooting – eek! In the true spirit of rolling with the punches, these two shrugged it off with a smile and said “whats next?”. On the fly, we noticed an ivy wall around the corner that turned into one of the happiest accidents I could’ve asked for. As our shoot went on, one wall led to another (an ivy wall, a colorful wall and a vintage wall) resulting in true urban romance at its finest.

Caroline and Andrew were so awesome to work with. A Memphis girl and a Nashville boy, these two love UT football, having a good time, but most of all, of course – each other! They are so funny, super chill and uber playful (every time I had him nuzzled into her ear, he’d whisper something that got her cracking up!). We are so excited for their wedding this year at Architectural Artifacts – 80,000 square feet of vintage collectibles, a gorgeous couple and an amazing party – YES PLEASE!  Great job you two, enjoy!

Kate & Terry Engagement! {Chicago Engagement Shoot}

Kate and Terry met at a wedding, both sitting at the singles table! The comedy of errors on their first date of going to the wrong restaurant three times and Terry determined to find the one in which they had made reservations, may have started the evening off with Kate thinking she was on “Punked”, but once they arrived and the conversation got going there was an undeniable chemistry! And let’s be honest, considering Kate loves the way he makes her laugh, that multiple cab ride beginning to their first date actually worked in Terry’s favor, because in just a couple of months these two will be dancing and sending a wink to the singles table at their own wedding!

Kate and Terry’s wedding will be held out at the gorgeous Itasca Country Club this September, so they wanted to make sure they had a slight urban feel to their engagement pictures with some of their favorite Chicago spots! They did such a great job during this shoot, we just can’t wait for September!

Courtney & Dan Engagement Shoot! {Chicago Engagement Photographer}

They met through the alumni chapter of their business fraternity, but I think it was probably the sauce at Michael’s Pizza on their first date that sealed the deal (seriously, that sauce is magic!). One of my very favorite things about doing engagement shoots is that it lets us get to know a whole new side of our couples. Courtney and Dan are both so incredibly business savvy and smart. When we met them for our first consultation, we knew that they were the types of people who get the job done and look good doing it! The part of them that we didn’t know yet, and got to see during their engagement shoot, was this playful, goofy, giggly side that clearly makes them that much more perfect for one another! Dan would make funny eyes at Courtney sending her into a giggle frenzy and the only thing I loved more than Dan’s “call you out” sense of humor, was Courtney listing off songs from old Savage Garden albums – Hilarious! We had so much fun hanging out with them and getting to know them for this shoot. Courtney and Dan are getting married at the Hard Rock Hotel downtown in just 6 weeks! It’s going to be so amazing – we can’t wait.

Carrie & Brad’s Wedding, The Rookery {Chicago Wedding Photographer}

Classic, sophisticated and elegant.

Carrie and Brad’s wedding in the historic Rookery Building downtown was filled with details of refined beauty. Carrie’s intricate, lace dress with black sash and white flower details, the deep red calla lilies mixed into the bundles of red roses, an array of centerpieces with dangling candlelit crystals atop champagne linens with gold and black table and chair accents to accompany the lavish design inherent in the Rookery Building… to name a few.

We brought Carrie and Brad together for their first look before the ceremony in the gorgeous hall of the W Chicago – City Center and then took them for pictures in downtown Chicago. As one of the warmest winters in Chicago so far, they were blessed with a bright downtown day in March which was perfect! Following pictures was a hilariously personal and heartfelt ceremony led by the one and only Rent-a-Rev, Jim Rehnberg, guests were both tearing up cracking up! Cocktail hour and reception were deliciously perfect by our friends at Jewell Weddings and Matt from Okyne Medialab got the party started which is what they had been waiting for all day!

We are so lucky to have met Carrie and Brad and to have been a part of such a beautiful and special day. We are so fortunate to call them clients and friends! Congratulations you two!

Gregory & Michael’s Engagement Shoot at Room 1520

Modern, Stylish and Fresh – we LOVED shooting this contemporary engagement shoot. Gregory and Michael were just married this past Saturday, March 3rd, 2012, but we kept their engagement shoot a secret until after the wedding since we had them wear their wedding suits for this shoot. Our inspiration for this fabulous engagement shoot was both their wedding design concept and our location, Room 1520.

Both men have an amazing eye for design. Michael has an innate talent for fashion from both his training in school and currently at The Chicago History Museum and Gregory lives weddings and events at Jewell Events Catering and is wrapped in wedding style on a day to day basis. They tied in some personal touches, favorite colors and Michael’s affinity for Star Trek and comic books so we knew these two were bound to come up with something perfect!

A special thank you to Room 1520! We love shooting in this gorgeous space!

Thanks again to Room 1520, Halls and Windy City Linen for our furniture, equipment and linens.

Leap into Wedding Season!

Trying to keep up with the abundance events in the coming months can be quite overwhelming. Lucky for you we have been keeping our eyes and ears open. Plus there’s a bonus… This month we have a whole extra day! And what better way to utilize this timely gift, than to attend the Fleur De Lis and Soiree hosted “Leap into Wedding Season”!

We met the Fleur De Lis girls a few weeks back at the Metropolitan Club Bridal Show, and we were incredibly impressed by their talent, and charm. If you are free on February 29th, you should most definitely stop by this event.

There will plenty of good vendors and fun people floating around at the party, so come on by and grab a drink and admire the bountiful blooms. Maybe we will see you there!

Happy Partying!

Pinterest!

Yay! Another excuse to avoid the winter weather, stay inside and play on our computers!

Not being particularly fond of the social media movement, I was weary about joining the newest craze… but after months of my assistant Jackie pleading with me (she’s always one step ahead of the game – its why I adore her!)… I am now on PINTEREST… and I love it!

For all of my brides planning out there, you should definitely utilize Pinterest, and other wedding sites. By sorting through countless images you can get a clear sense of what you want your wedding to look like. As the person taking the photos, I find it really helpful when a bride can show me what images speak to her. This helps me see her style, her personality and gives me a glimpse of what she’s dreaming of for her special day! That being said, here’s a teensy word of caution – be sure to stay realistic about your expectations when you use others’ images for inspiration. Many of those shots were spur of the moment and some of the best took careful planning, most were more than likely both. Here’s an example of that:

~ “Bride and Groom Under the Fireworks” shot. ~ These pictures are pinned on so many boards and for good reason – its such a great moment. If this is a picture that would “be nice to have” then just give your photographer a heads up and they will be around and get what they can, but if this is your idea of the perfect wedding shot and YOU MUST have it, be sure to tell your photographer right away and make sure that they know how important it is to you! (Also side note: MAKE SURE YOU CAN GET THE PERMIT. This has happened to a few people I know. After booking the venue, they found out that they could not get a fireworks permit.) Understand that if you want to get that moment on film, it may have to be planned a bit…  We will want to plan ahead for where the fireworks will burst, where you will stand and make sure that we have the room we need right next to you and you may spend the first part of the show being directed in a mini photo shoot through a few natural and romantic poses. The moment may not feel as organic in real life, but will look amazing in the picture!

One last little Pinterest tip as you are pinning your hearts out… never expect to recreate a photo that you see on Pinterest, in a magazine, or any other site. These images should be inspiration for what you would like your wedding to be like or feel like but not a copy and paste wedding album. I can look at these images to see what you are looking for, but I can’t repeat a moment in time. Do not fret, however, because that moment for YOU at your wedding, in your dress, with your new husband will be even more amazing!

I think that this type of website is going to be such a great step in the wedding planning world. It inspires vendors and brides to make each detail specific to their vision. Like we always say, a clear vision and good communication are key to a stress free wedding.

Overall we are pumped to start pinning! For all of my brides, make sure to find me so I can check out your boards!

My Pinterest

Happy Pinning!

Big Miracle – Big Love

This being a season of chocolate and eye candy (Gotta love Rom-com month) it was so refreshing to see a totally different kind of love on the big screen last weekend. Big Miracle had it all, the adorable boy next door (Jon Krasinski – eek!), fun characters based on real people, and WHALES!!!!

We could go on and on about how the trailer made us cry, and the movie was everything that it promised to be… but we are not a blog about films. Instead we want to point out how love played an integral part to this true story.

Without giving away too much, we can say that this tale of a family trapped, their will to survive, and the affection that the world felt for them is touching to say the least. We left feeling more aware of how connected we are on a global and universal scale. Everyone needs help and feels fear, so we should be there to support those that are in need of a lift, and appreciate when we can stand on our own.

Life is hard, love is harder. Being open to hurt or disappointment is scary for a lot of people, but once you take a leap of faith the benefits vastly outweigh the risks. For those of us that are lucky enough to have someone that helps us get through the bad times, make sure you let that person (or pet) know how much they mean to you. And when you see someone or something that needs saving, listen to your heart and lend a helping hand.

Go see it for yourself! Take the whole family!

Happy Viewing!
